Industrial visit to Doordarshan

Description: Doordarshan is an Indian public service broadcaster, a division of Prasar Bharati. It is one of the largest broadcasting organizations in the world in terms of the studios and transmitters. Doordarshan has started replacing its analog transmitters to digital transmitters, which will allow up to 8 channels to be carried from a sing three-tier. Doordarshan has a three-tier programme serserviceNational, Regional and Local. The National programmes emphasizes on events and issues of interest to the entire nation. These programmes include news, current affairs, magazine programmes and documentaries on science, art, culture, environment, social issues, serials, music, dance, drama and feature films. The regional programmes are beamed on DD National at specific time and also on the Regional Language Satellite Channels, which caters programmes for interests of a particular state in the language and idiom of that region. The local programmes are area specific and cover local issues featuring local people.

The aim of the visit: Communication being the core of electronics engineering requires knowledge about signal transmission and reception. Doordarshan, the oldest mode of audio/video transmission in India is best suited for students to learn and understand the concepts of RF transmission.

The outcome of the visit: The final year students visited Doordarshan and acquired knowledge about Digital Terrestrial TV (DTT). The various facts of transmission and reception were made clear to them. The subject of “Antenna Wave Propagation & TV Engineerin5th-semester under 5th-semester scheme was clearly realized at Doordarshan.
With this visit the history of TV and its transmission was clear. Learning the concepts of RF Engineering was a great experience at Doordarshan.
